Pack 459 Raises over $1,900 to help defeat ALS!

Posted on Sun, Aug 24, 2014

The back to school celebration was filled with fun, laughter, ice buckets and amazing generosity!

Pack 459’s back to school celebration was an amazing success. From lazer tag and angry birds, to booger wars and hamster balls Cub Scouts and their families had an amazing time. Even more amazing was the spirit and generosity of the Pack when it came to the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge.

When the pack was challenged by Amanda Leekley, who has been selling friendship bracelets for years to raise funds for ALS raising over $700 on her own, the Pack rose to the challenge, and delivered! At the time the video was recorded, over $750 had been raised. By the end of the celebration, over $1,900 was raised!

The Challenge Continues…

A key part of participating in the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge is not just to raise awareness about ALS, but especially to raise funds for research so we can hopefully eradicate this disease. To continue this, we challenge;

  1. Our former Cubmaster, Mr. Mike Siegel and his new Boy Scout Troop in Tennessee.
  2. Our former Cubmaster, Mr. Ceaser Berenguer.
  3. Troop 444 (and Mr. Bud Ferguson) in Marietta, GA.

Mr. Berenguer also challenged the entire Boy Scout Wood Badge Staff from Wood Badge training session 92-75!

Donations that have an impact-

The pack donated all funds raised to the Kimberly Kim Foundation. The Kim family is a Scouting family and part of Pack 459.

To make donations to help defeat ALS, you have many options. Here are a few you might want to consider;

  • The Kimberly Kim Foundation. The Kimberly Kim Foundation, Inc, (a 501(c)3), is a Georgia non-profit corporation dedicated to raising funds to provide assistance to families living with ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis) and to promote awareness of this disease.
  • The ALS Association of Georgia. The mission of the ALS Association is to find the cause of the disease and discover a cure through global, cutting-edge research. The ALS Association empowers people with Lou Gehrig’s Disease and their families to live fuller lives by providing compassionate care and support.
  • Kim Kim Fight! Kim Kim Fight! is dedicated to aid the Kim family as they battle the financial and emotional turmoil caused by living with ALS. The website has information about ALS and features a video of how ALS has impacted the Kim family.

Special Thanks to;

  • The Adams family for coordinating the fun with Games 2 U.
  • The Bolton and Stubbs families for coordinating the event at St. Aidan’s Church and providing water and popsicles for all.
  • St. Aidan’s Church for generously allowing Pack 459 to use its facilities.

GREAT JOB, PACK 459!
